Maria Carlos Baptista is a Portuguese fashion designer whose work stands out for its dialogue between body, movement, bold silhouettes, and a strong visual identity. Coming from the world of dance, she early on incorporated into her training an awareness of gesture, posture, and music. Elements that shape her creative process and allow her to design pieces that truly breathe on stage.
Her path includes formal training in dance, but after reaching a point where health issues limited her ballet practice, she turned to fashion. She studied fashion design at Modatex. Her work is distinguished by the use of forms that explore the contrast between rigidity and fluidity, strong silhouettes that challenge gender categories, contrasts of light and shadow, accentuated volumes, predominantly dark tones with flashes of brightness, and cuts that express duality: between masculine and feminine, between what is present and what is memory.
